San Antonio was an eye opening experience. We pulled into the town and immediately went to the Guitar Cetner where we met someone named Cheryl who was a sales lady who worked in the audio department. We purchased a last minute interface to use to connect my laptop on stage to run stereo sound. In retrospect, we should have just used mono aux to run the audio, but that was something I had to learn in Houston. I will get to that in the next blog.
My immediate impression of San Antonio was “wow, this city is much bigger than what I have imagined”. My mom liked to too, she told me that she was pleasantly surprised after checking into our river walk hotel room. I am really blessed about my mom supporting me on this tour, she said that it was like a glorified vacation in Texas for her. She really spoiled me on this tour, so shout out to my incredible mom.
We got to the venue, and I was greeted by a line of Violent Vira fans, as she was performing on her tour in the Main Room. We set up audio in the Small Room. The Paper Tiger is an incredible open concept venue, so the crowd can flow in between the small and big room. I was blessed again because Violent Vira fans have a similar interest to the type of music our line up had. I played osme Playboi Carti to draw some of the people into the room, and we began the show.
Thank you to all of the talent that played. Everyone truly made this night really special. I got to meet a lot of cool people, and perform in front of new people. Overall, San Antonio really surprised me. When we left the venue after the night was over, there were different types of food trucks parked outside. There was soul food, tex-mex, Caribbean food and more. My mouth was watering and I was exhaused so I ate five tacos and got into my friend Angel’s car. My friend Angel had gotten back from having a crazy cool Argentina experience (in the country of Argentina), so I got to hear all about it. She had drove up from Houston to see the show, and drove me back down to play the next night. Big shout out to Angel.
A problem that I had around this time was that I struggled a lot with overcoming issues about the way I look. I ended up getting self conscious because I was wearing something revealing (shorts and a crop top). I had to mentally deescalate myself from these thoughts and acknowledge that I am healthy and beautiful. Looking back, I know that was delusional because in all of the photos of me, I am having fun and people are happy. I shouldn’t be obsessing over weight. I feel like that is what blasting yourself on social media does, because you automatically start scrolling when you post, so I feel as though I am prone to looking and comparing myself to others.
Something I learned about this show was the power of community. Everyone on the line-up was really close and well connected. They had done songs and shows with one another before, and were able to reconnect with friends and family at this function. I looked around at all the good people and felt really cool to be apart of what they created, and was impressed by the tight nit crowd that they pulled. San Antonio is the city of homies, for sure.
Also, we had a dilemma where we scrambled to find the missing Bucee plushie. I felt like a butt because I had given it to a really nice girl while I was dancing on stage, and I didn’t say that I wanted it back, Bucee ended up in the Violent Vira crowd, moshing to the music. These pictures were taken when he was returned to us.
Thank you San Antonio for an unforgettable show.
